Activity Description
Use the site’s movie trailers, songs, and commercials to provide students with exposure to authentic English and practice with listening comprehension.Preparation
- Make sure that the site is not blocked at your school before using it with students.
- Go to the site and select Trailers, Commercials, or Songs to view the site’s content. The trailers and commercials have cloze and/or multiple choice questions, while the songs are cloze exercises.
- Select a video that fits with course content and objectives.
- Preview the video and the questions to be sure your computer has the necessary plug-ins to play the video. Also test it on the student computers, if students will be working individually or in pairs.
- Decide if you will have students do the exercise individually, in pairs, or as a whole-class activity.
How-To
- Open a Web browser to the video you selected.
- Press the play to watch the video, pausing, rewinding, and re-watching, as needed.
- Answer the listening comprehension questions or complete the cloze exercises near the video by selecting answers or typing in the missing words.
- Check answers by choosing the Check button.
Teacher Tips
- Some videos have transcriptions. Some of the site’s content is British English.
- The site has some advertising, so teach students how to avoid it.
