Activity Description
After teaching parts of speech, use this game to have students practice identifying parts of speech. This is a fast-paced single-player game, but could be used as a whole class review with students calling out the words. There are three levels of difficulty: Beginning (find nouns and verbs only), Skilled (also includes pronouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs), or Master levels (all parts of speech).Preparation
- Make sure site is not blocked at your school.
- Try out the exercise you plan to use on the computer(s) before having students try it.
- Make sure you know how to explain the answers to questions students get wrong and do not understand. Check for answers you may not agree with.
- Select How to Play for game instructions.
How-To
- Using the instructor's computer, go to the Example Web Site (above).
- Select Start and choose the level of difficulty.
- Play the game with your students either in teams or in open play where anyone can shout out the answer. Or take turns moving through the classroom allowing each student to answer at least one question.
Teacher Tips
- Many sites, like this one, have advertising. Teach your students what it looks like and how to avoid selecting it since many times it contains malware that they will not want on their computers, at school or at home. It is a very important and necessary skill for them to know.
More Ways
- The main Web site (see link immediately above) also has games for practicing typing and word search puzzles.
