Activity Description

The online writing worksheets at this site are 26 ready-to-download and print writing prompts on a variety of topics of interest: Learning Language, Marriage, Pets, Television, etc. The worksheets are simply writing prompts consisting of a few descriptive sentences and then some questions to be answered. Teachers can download the worksheets, print them out, and use them with students. Permission is granted for non-commercial uses.

Here is a typical prompt:

Title: UFOs
"The Earth can sure look and feel big, but the fact is it is unbelievably small. Maybe this is why many people believe in UFOs. Do you think there is something else out there? Or is it just in our imagination? ...Write what you think about UFOs."

Preparation

  • View the various worksheet topics and judge suitability for your class.
  • Connect the writing activity to your course objectives (a grammar structure, verb tense, theme/topic).
  • Give clear instructions about expectations (number of sentences, etc.).
  • Make sure the site is not blocked at your site.

How-To

  • Pass out and discuss the topic in class and assign the writing activity.
  • When the students have completed the writing assignment, collect the papers and pass them out to someone else to read.
