My Calendar Maker: Make a Calendar

Details

Activity Description

Do not miss important deadlines or meetings this year! Keep track of your busy schedule and help your students to do the same, by making a free printable calendar online at My Calendar Maker. It even allows you to add a personal photo. These calendars do not allow you to print upcoming events, or assignments, so those would need to be hand written on the calendar after printing.

Preparation

  1. Preview the site to see how the calendar maker works. When you select the "Get Started on Your Free Calendar" you will be taken to a page where you can create an account in order for the site to track your progress in creating a calendar. If this is not important to you, then look to the left and choose the link to "MYFREECALENDARMAKER."
  2. Make several different calendars to use as examples. You may also want to try the two other sites mentioned below under "More Ways."
  3. Decide which one to use with your class.

How-To

  1. Review the importance of goal-setting. This lesson focuses on the Timebound portion of SMART goals.
  2. In this activity students will make a current month calendar that they can write on, keeping track of upcoming dates etc.
  3. Demonstrate how to make a calendar.
  4. Students go to computers in pairs or groups and prepare a current month calendar. Print enough copies for everyone in the group.
  5. Regather and discuss what items need to be put on the calendar to help accomplish goals.
  6. Students finish calendars, implement by checking events, assignments, tests, as they accomplish them.

Teacher Tips

  • This activity works nicely as an initial calendaring event. The students can make the calendars, then during the upcoming week, update assignments, events, etc.
  • SMART goals are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound.
