Activity Description

In this activity students learn about the importance of learning about the author of the web page.

Preparation

  1. Check that the site is not blocked at your school.
  2. Go through the web pages before class.
  3. Print the Example Document: Who is the Author of This Website or send it to your students digitally. They will write a summary of what you learn.

How-To

  1. Begin by going over the Example URL (shown above) with the class.
  2. Lead a brainstorming activity with the students on the many things available on the Internet.
  3. Discuss why would you want to know who authored a web page. Hand out the Example Document: Who is the Author of This Website.
  4. Go over the main points on the site.
  5. Discuss what you learned about the different authors. Did it make a difference as to what you thought about the articles they wrote?

Teacher Tips

It is suggested that you E-mail the link to this practice activity to your students, or put it on the desktop of each computer to help students access the site right away. You can do this by clicking on the icon to the left of the page's URL, holding down the left mouse button, and dragging it to the computer's Desktop.
