Activity Description

This site has some great tips and rules to help your students become better spellers. At the bottom of the Example Web Site page (above) are seven quizzes, some with sound that are interactive, showing the results online when completed. For this activity use the Example Document, Spelling Rules and Practice. Students study the site, recording suggestions, rules, quiz scores, and words they need to study.

Preparation

  1. Become familiar with the Web site and quizzes.
  2. Select appropriate lesson for class. Print the Example Document, Spelling Rules and Practice (above).

How-To

  1. Go to the Web site.
  2. Demonstrate how to use the site.
  3. Go over the spelling rule to be presented. (You will need to scroll down the page to see the spelling rules.)
  4. Use the quiz to practice the rule.
  5. Assign a rule to each student pair.
  6. Have students report back on their finding. Hand out the Spelling Rules and Practice document. Students study the site, record the spelling suggestions, rules, their personal quiz scores and words they need to study.
