Quizizz: Online Gamified Assessment
Details
Activity Description
Quizizz can be used as a formative assessment to find out what students already know about a topic or it can be used as a review to find out what was learned. You can create and play quizzes live or for homework. Quizizz does not require a classroom projector. Learners see the questions on their device and can work at their own pace. There is even a homework mode where learners can take your quiz outside the classroom.

Formative assessments are not normally given for a grade, but they are given to inform the instructor where help is needed so every learner can be successful. Quizizz is limited to multiple-choice questions, but memes make feedback fun. There is a free app for iOS devices but currently not for Android; however, players can access the game through any Web browser.
Preparation
- Get a Quizizz account and practice making and playing games
- Select Public (In top navigation bar) and peruse games already made.
- Find one on your topic area and select the Duplicate button (below the Play and Homework buttons).
- Open your duplicate game and select Edit.
- Tweak it to fit your class and select Finish.
How-To
- Quizizz is best used as a homework activity. Select homework and you will get detailed instructions to send your students to do the quiz at home.
- Assign a quiz on Friday and do a whole class check of results on Monday.
- Use the reports section to see how well students understand key concepts.
- Revisit any topics that revealed lack of understanding from the Quizizz.
Teacher Tips
- Never make a quiz from scratch. Always find a Public one and tweak it to save time.
- Here is a review of Quizizz
that compares Kahoot! (another popular quiz/game tool) and Quizizz.
More Ways
- You can also play this game live in the classroom.
- View an OTAN Web-based Activity on Formative Assessments, which includes Kahoot, Quizizz, and Socrative called Gamify your Lesson with Formative Assessments
